[Previous entry: "UNDER FIRE AGAIN"] [Next entry: "TO THE CITIZENS OF HAMTRAMCK"]

06/23/2006: "PROMISES FROM HAMTRAMCK'S LEADERS"

Councilman Scott Klein carries a sign asking 'How Important is Your Life Saftey? - Ask City Council' during the first round of firefighter layoffs. Now he is on the city council."As your City Council President I demanded a fully-staffed, fully-equipped full-time Fire Department. And I ask that you will join me in demanding the highest possible levels of Public Safety."

Mayor Karen Majewski (karenmajewski.com)

"If we don't hire some bodies, it will be extremely difficult to operate."
City Manager Donald Crawford (on hiring firefighters)

"...his attempt to gut the fire department while wearing down the remaining firefighters with overtime show that he is concerned neither with the pblic safety of the residents of Hamtramck nor, ironcially with protecting the city budget."
Karen Majewski (Citizen 10-19-05, actually commenting on Schimmel)

"With public safety, I think it is important to work to alleviate the burden of overtime within our fire and police services and find adequate funds to hire more and pay overtime less."
Councilman Tim Nowakowski (Citizen 10-05-05)

"...we do not to destroy our fire department to make it affordable. The immediate answer is to reduce overtime and use the savings to hire firefighters."
Councilman Rob Cedar (Citizen 10-15-05)

"We can reduce the overtime and eliminate jobs in the city government that are not vital and put more police officers and firefighters on the streets."
Councilman Abdul Algazali (Citizen 10-05-05)

It is the staff of the state and the governor through her appointment of Lou Schimmel that prevents us from answering the staffing crisis in the fire department."
Councilman Scott Klein (Citizen 10-05-05)

"It is clear that we have the money in the budget now to hire more firefighters."
Scott Klein (Citizen 10-05-05)

"..the state appointed negotiation team is bent on destroying our ability to provide public safety."
Scott Klein (Citizen 10-05-05)

"You end up paying money up from to save money down the line."
Emergency Financial Manager Lousi Schimmel (on the firefighters contract - Citizen 02-22-06)

"SOLIDARITY SUPPORTS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT"
Hamtramck Digest headline (Solidarity PAC Campain Newsletter - 07-30-05)

"That's the kind of support for a well-eqipped and fully staffed fire department you can expect when you elect... Ahmed... Cedar and Klein to council."
Hamtramck Digest (Solidarity PAC Campain Newsletter - 07-30-05)

"Majewski and candidates for 4 year terms on council Rob Cedar.. and Scott Klein know the price of peace of mind is a well equipped and staffed fire department."
Hamtramck Digest (Solidarity PAC Campain Newsletter - 07-30-05)

Other priorities mentioned on Nowakowski's election flyer include re-establishing block organizations and Neighborhood Watch, and rehiring police and fire personnel.

What a bunch of hypocrites.

I got the link here from Hamtramck Star. Seems the council people here are just blatantly lying by not fulfilling their campaign promises!

We were duped, we were lied to and now we're endangered because of it.

I smell a recall if tonight's council meeting doesn't go well.

Be strong!

Wasn't Councilman Nowakowski the one working with the firefighters to resolve the contract?
