Firefighters were putting out the last remnants of a massive blaze that spread across three homes in Hamtramck, and left some local families out in the cold, Local 4 reported.
Fire officials say the blaze started at a two-story flat on Belmont Street Friday afternoon.
Winds reportedly caused the flames to spread to two other homes. Several area firefighters spent hours trying to get the fires under control, including at least two laid-off Hamtramck firefighters who jumped in to help -- cold and soaking wet in their civilian clothes, the station reported.
"I was in town helping out with the Goodfellows (charity), and I saw the fire, and I said I'd just help out," said Mike Dodd, a former Hamtramck fireman.
Neighbors told Local 4 that a family of eight lived in one of the homes. It was unknown how many were left homeless by the blaze, or if they were receiving any immediate aid, the station reported.

No injuries were reported in the fires. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
